Recently I started again taking photos with film, especially the 120 slide. But because I`d like to have more control on all the process and because I had some problems with my Mamiya RB67 I decided to try something different. I developed by myself the film. Ok this is no something so special, but the “strange” thing is that i did it by Coffee and vitamin C.
Yes exactly Coffee and Vitamin C. This process known as CAFFENOL is something really simple and fun and everyone can try it at home.
For this experiment I used my Alpenflex, a little 60years old grandma
I used a kodak 400TX B/W expired and follow the receipt in the following video
5 TSP of instant coffee in 6 US oz of water
2 little sticks of Vitamin C Powder (to be honestly not so polder mine) for a quantità a little bit over 1/2 TSP
3.5 TSB of washing soda in 6 US oz of water
12 US oz of water and 3 US oz of Ilford Rapid Fixer
Soap
Following the instructions in the video and using a time of 9 min for the process and 5 for the fixer this is the result
Well being the first time I`m really satisfied. I`m trying now with the same film (expired 2011) in the Mamiya 645 where I hope the better lens can help a little bit more in the result.
And I will try a better scan because this was done using a normal flat scan with an iPad to illuminate the negative
Reading on the net about this process the next step will be adding salt.
